Getting Ready to Leave For Forever Home

Items and Information Given at Pickup

Each puppy will go to it's new home with:

  • AKC registration application
  • 5 pounds of raw blend food (the diet the pup had while with us) to be used during transition to the new diet.
  • Toys (washed in white vinegar to get rid chemicals and dyes)
  • Chew treat (e.g., all natural ox tail or bully stick) to help relieve anxiety during the drive home
  • Blanket washed in non toxic laundry detergent and covered in the scent of their birth family (littermates, parents, our other Goldens, and Ken and I) to make transition easier
  • Probiotics (Forti Flora packets or raw kefir) to prevent loose stools that can occur following the stressful transition to new surroundings

American Kennel Club (AKC) Registration

Our puppies are sold with limited AKC registration. Although our puppies have excellent bloodlines, the puppies are sold as pets. In very rare circumstances, full AKC registration may be offered to select buyers, if it is discussed prior to placing a deposit. In the event that full registration is deemed a possibility, the puppy will be sold with limited registration and later may be changed to full registration after submission of the recommended health testing results to Weaver Dairy Goldens for review.

Pickup Schedule and Information

Pickup

Puppies are allowed to leave for their forever homes at 8 weeks of age.  We do our best to bathe each puppy just prior to pickup. As you can imagine, puppies living with their littermates can be a little smelly. A long drive with a stinky puppy may not be as pleasant as it could be. We are  happy to trim the toenails during pickup, to demonstrate the procedure so the new family can continue this task at home, for any buyer interested.

Puppies will not be "picked" until they are leaving if we are keeping a puppy from the litter to add to our breeding program.  In this case, additional time is allowed for each pickup appointment.  Otherwise, puppies will "picked" at the 6 weeks puppy play date.  We try to be as flexible as possible with the pickup schedule. We schedule an hour appointment for each family when they come to pick up their new fur baby, or more if picking is occurring on the day the pup leaves us.  We ask that our buyers be on time and notify us as soon as possible if they will be early or late.  We need to allow ample time to each family picking up their puppy, as the family may need to choose their puppy as well as go over the items in the goody bag and may have many questions that need to be answered.  Lots of educational material is explained during the pickup appointment.  Educational materials are posted in the Facebook group prior to the puppy leaving us as well.

Buyers will either choose their puppy on the day of pickup or at the 6 weeks puppy play date.  If there are 7 or 8 puppies of the preferred sex, it can be a difficult decision. There is a lot of information to go over, and questions are inevitable. A photo of the family with their newest member will be taken to post on our Facebook page. Let us know in advance if you prefer not to have your picture posted.
